Rapper/singer Machine Gun Kelly makes his return to rap with his ambitious, interesting, three-part single, “Pressure.”
So, apparently, Machine Gun Kelly has decided to rap again. He brings back the bars on
“Pressure”, which runs north of four minutes. Notably, “Pressure” is split into three distinct parts. That means there are beat/production switches (produced by Kelly
SlimXX, BazeXX, Charlie Handsome, Ghostrage, and Joe Reeves) which keeps the record interesting to say the least. Does Kells nail his rap comeback? Well, it is an interesting listen… a lot to take in.
Following a dramatic intro (SlimXX), give Machine Gun Kelly credit for his agile rhymes and flow. “The diamonds are symbolic of all the pressure they put on me until I shined,” he asserts in the first verse of the first part. He continues, “My life is symbiotic with the culture, I could never, ever lose the vibe.” Umm, sure, Kells, if you say so. All the while, he’s backed by a banging beat, though nothing brand-new or distinctly different from other trap-leaning beats. The second verse – still within the first part – is longer, finding Kells rapping about his come up. At about the 1:20 mark, the tempo slackens, and we move into Part II, which features one verse. Among highlights: “Open the toilet and took a piss / Open my mouth, I’m talkin’ shit” (
) and “I broke every bone except my middle finger (fuck you).” Charming! Finally, around the 2:22 mark, there is another production switch signaling Part III. Fittingly, we get a sex reference: “I wear chains with my shirt off when I get my dick sucked / And she keep it in her throat like she got the hiccups.” Another intriguing moment: “My cousin tried to suffocate me / He said the voice in his head was Jesus Christ.” Wow
… So, what does one make of
“Pressure”? It is something… It has its moments.
