Ah, bring on Midnight Heat 🕛 🔥! Wait – it is not usually hot at midnight! Well, it is steaming hot 🥵 at midnight when it comes to this naughty, innuendo and sex-laden column featuring songs intended for nighttime. Yeah, we are talking about that after dark type $hi†, ya dig? These risqué, unapologetic records often raise eyebrows and temperature alike. In the 16th edition of Midnight Heat (2024), we explore the naughty, sexy vibes behind, “Vitamin D” by Luke Markinson.

Luke Markinson, Vitamin D [📷: Luke Markinson]“Dizzy and I’m weak, goddamn, my sugar’s low,” Luke Markinson sings, sharing his illness, later adding in the first verse, “Fuck the diagnosis, I already know…” He already knows? Is he diabetic since his sugar is low? He shouldn’t play around with low blood sugar, so I’m giving the pop singer/songwriter the side-eye with that fuck the diagnosis lyric… He adds some context though:  “It’s an emergency, the doctor’s calling me / He tells me that I need / To get some more, a taste of your…” wait for it – “Vitamin D”! Per the Mayo Clinic, ‘Vitamin D is a nutrient your body needs for building and maintaining healthy bones.’ So, Luke needs D 😈!

Bitmoji ImageIf you couldn’t catch my drift, the Vitamin D Markinson needs is, um, phallic, if you will.  On the brief but potent “Vitamin D,” Luke needs to get some.  He sings in the chorus, “Vitamin D, come on and give it to me / I know what my body needs / I’ll get down on my knees and savor all your…”  Get down on his knees, huh? That’s proof that the D he needs ends with an I-C-K, PERIOD.  Throughout this fun record, he excels delivering naughty, innuendo-laden lyrics. The crown jewel of the song is the chorus, where the listener gathers his needs are purely sexual.  During the verses, the production is ‘seedy sounding,’ matching the naughty nature of the lyrics.  In the chorus, the production grows more robust with the pounding beat and the sharp synths.  Yeah, I gave Luke a side-eye earlier about how casual he was regarding low blood sugar and uttering fuck the diagnosis, but the man knew all along he needed a big dose of “Vitamin D”.
