Luke Bryan shines on “Born Here Live Here Die Here,” the thoughtful title track from his highly anticipated seventh studio album.
After a couple of quiet years post-What Makes You Country (2017), Luke Bryan is officially back. That’s right, one of country’s biggest superstars returns with his seventh studio album, Born Here Live Here Die Here. While Born Here Live Here Die Here is his seventh studio album, Bryan has also released a couple of side projects, compilations and EPs (The Spring Break series and Farm Tour… Here’s to the Farmer EP). After releasing singles “Knockin’ Boots” and “What She Wants Tonight”, Bryan releases the third advance single from the album, “Born Here Live Here Die Here.”
“Born Here Live Here Die Here” is the kind of record that Luke Bryan tends to eat up. Bryan had no hand in writing this particular song, which was penned by Jake Mitchell, Jameson Rodgers, and Josh Thompson. Reminiscent in tone, Bryan brings the lyrics to life beautiful as he expresses pride for his hometown. It’s nothing new in country music – hometowns are a common topic – but hey, Luke sells it compellingly. One of the biggest selling points is the chorus, which sums up the sentiment:
“Born here, live here, die here From the roots, to the boots, to the lay me down suit Yeah, I’m gonna be proud to be right here Just like my daddy, and his daddy did too Ride the same roads, work the same dirt Go to the same church and drink the same beer Born here, live here, die here Yeah.”
Besides those reminiscent lyrics, Luke Bryan delivers well-rounded vocals. Sure, the twang is heavy, but that’s what we’ve come to expect from the country singer. Also, the production suits Bryan characteristically, thanks to Jeff Stevens and Jody Stevens.
Final Thoughts
All in all, Luke Bryan delivers another country hit with “Born Here Live Here Die Here.” It’s a thoughtful, well performed record by all means that plays to Bryan’s strengths. It doesn’t move the needle regarding Bryan’s career – he’s well established at this point – but it does find him flexing.
