Pop collaborative trio LSD – aka Labrinth, Sia, and Diplo – returns with a strong second single, “Audio,” following the respectable, but non-game-changing debut single, “Genius.”
LSD – not the hallucinogenic drug btw – is comprised of highly-respected musicians Labrinth, Sia, and Diplo. That’s a trio of some mad international flair to say the least – England, Australia, and the United States. LSD released their debut single on May 4, 2018, entitled “Genius”. While it wasn’t genius in the least, it was good. Did it wow? Perhaps some felt the wow factor, but personally, it slightly tempered expectations for forthcoming singles. The good news is, second single, “Audio” is > than “Genius” was.
“Audio” successfully fuses electro-pop, pop, and a dash of urban contemporary music into one record. The production, much like “Genius,” is a major selling point. Not only does Diplo handle the boards, so does King Henry and Labrinth. Set in a minor key – E-flat minor to be exact – the darker, more sensual vibes are turned up to the nth degree. Sia sings the first verse, blessing us with her distinct, marvelous vocal tone. Labrinth adds a couple of ad-libs, joining her for portions of the chorus.
“Make the bomb bomb beat
I’ll give you melody…
Make the song so sweet
You gon’ come home with me, oh.”
Diplo gets into the vocal action with the hook, “Ay, ay / Play that audio.” Labrinth, expectedly, takes the reins on the second verse, while the chorus follows the same script as earlier. With the return of Diplo on the hook, all three have roles on the outro in some form or fashion, “We can’t live on without the rhythm.”
Final Thoughts
Labrinth, Sia, and Diplo have a great record on their hands with “Audio.” All three hold down their fair share, working well collaboratively. If “Genius” felt the slightest bit underwhelming, “Audio” does a slightly better job of showing where LSD is going with this collaborative project.
