Louis the Child, Dear Sense [Photo Credit: Interscope]Chi-Town DJ/production duo Louis the Child taps continually rising pop singer MAX for their infectious, sleekly produced, tongue-in-cheek single, “Dear Sense.”

Pop artist MAX is a familiar face on The Musical Hype in 2018.  His appearances include his own single “Still New York” (featuring Joey Bada$$), a duet with Noah Cyrus, “Team”, and as the featured guest on Galantis’ “Satisfied”. As for Chicago DJ/production duo Louis the Child (Robert Hauldren and Frederic Kennett), it is their debut appearance on the publication, sigh.  They don’t squander the opportunity, impressing on their new single, “Dear Sense.” And with MAX having such an awesome year, why not tap him to drop dope vocals?

On the production end of things, Louis the Child is on fire. The initial piano intro is dope AF.  After it fades, replaced with synths and such, it doesn’t return until the end of the record.  Besides some sick work with the keys, the duo shines with biting synths, wobbling synths, and an awesome beat. Safe to say, these young men – only in their early 20s – keeps things colorful and slick to the nth degree.

Moving on to MAX, as always, he drops absolutely awesome vocals.  This guy is a star.  Here, he shows off his versatility with vocal harmonies, falsetto, and a couple of soulful runs. Lyrically, there’s simply not much variation or depth. It’s not needed, as both the verse and chorus are infectious and memorable.  Sure, the verse is repetitive, but the tongue-in-cheek vibes are incredibly effective.  The chorus is irresistible as well:

“Dear sense, where have you been? / Show yourself, o-oh / I took a chance / To play a play you / I played myself / I didn’t make you.”

Final Thoughts

“The kids are alright” – Louis the Child that is! They serve up a great electronic backdrop which MAX rides like a champ… or something like that.  Again, the best way to describe “Dear Sense” is I-N-F-E-C-T-I-O-U-S – infectious!
