On the 69th edition of 3BOPS (2021), we select three awesome songs that are associated with the word LOST, performed exclusively by women.
O
n 3BOPS, we are totally dedicated to keeping things L-I-T-E! Similar to 5ive Songs, there’s a topic and a short blurb, only with THREE songs instead of FIVE. Yes, it’s a playlist, but it’s a miniature playlist that shouldn’t take much time to consume. On the 69th edition of 3BOPS (2021), we select three awesome songs that are associated with the word LOST, performed exclusively by women.1. Jazmine Sullivan, “Lost One”
💿 Heaux Tales • 🏷 RCA • 📅 2021
One of the simpler, yet best records from 💿 Heaux Tales, the long-awaited return of 🎙 Jazmine Sullivan, is 🎵 “Lost One.” In the context of “Lost One,” after messing things up, Sullivan tries to make amends and admit her shortcomings. Still, she’s “a selfish bitch” as she requests on the chilling chorus, “Just don’t have too much fun without me /… Please don’t forget about me.”
Like much of Heaux Tales, Sullivan is raw, yet manages to remind us of the glory of neo-soul and a more soulful brand R&B. Also, producer 🎛 Dave “Pop” Watson” deserves a shout out for his simple, tasteful backdrop. Ultimately, this is an incredibly relatable record – one of the better ones of 2021.

2. Billie Eilish, “Lost Cause”
💿 Happier Than Ever • 🏷 Darkroom / Interscope • 📅 2021
“Thought you had your shit together, but damn, I was wrong.” Woo! Now that’s a bullet right there 🎙 Billie Eilish. The 🏆 Grammy-winning alternative pop superstar brings some bite and sass to 🎵 “Lost Cause”, the fourth single from her utterly sublime sophomore album, 💿 Happier Than Ever. As always, Eilish works with her talented bro, 🎼✍ 🎛 FINNEAS, producing straight-up fire.
“Lost Cause” shines, period. The record features an awesome rhythmic groove. The production is excellent – colorful and tasty. Worth noting, the sound has more of an urban pop flavor. This is a welcome contrast that Billie eats up. She sings more dynamically than usual, from the onset (contextually); I love her tone. There’s an indulgence about her performance that makes it quite charming. Her harmonized vocals on the chorus are ear-catching. The chorus is infectious:
“You ain’t nothin’ but a lost cause (Cause, cause) And this ain't nothin’ like it oncе was (Was, was) I know you think you’re such an outlaw But you got no job (job).”
As you can tell, from the biting excerpted lyrics, Eilish is ripping this guy a new one. It all goes back to those matters of the heart which worked adversely for Billie. At least “Lost Cause” works out masterfully for the listeners. Nothing lost there!

3. Snoh Aalegra, “Lost You”
💿 Temporary Highs in the Violet Skies • 🏷 Artium Recordings / Roc Nation • 📅 2021
Swedish-born and bred Iranian singer/songwriter 🎙 Snoh Aalegra (Shahrzad Fooladi) is a prime example of an artist infusing life and sheer excellence into R&B. Aalegra shines on her third studio album, 💿 Temporary Highs in the Violet Skies, released in the summer of 2021. Among the crème de la crème of Temporary Highs in the Violet Skies is none other than 🏆 Grammy-nominated gem, 🎵 “Lost You”. Furthermore, “Lost You” ranks as one of the best songs of the year.
“You and I was no debating / Now it’s up for conversation.” Ooh wee! “Lost You” features superb production by 🎛 No ID and 🎛 Maneesh, balancing past and present superbly 👍. This backdrop sets up Snoh Aalegra for surefire success. She, in turn, puts in work with beautiful, pure vocals. She never over-sings or forces things, delivering cool energy, if you will 👍. The icing on top, of course, is the theme. Thematically, Snoh reflects on losing love yet still longing for that person. That’s relatable to the nth degree if I do say so myself.
“Although I lost you I, I’ll always want you ‘Cause you take me high.”
Indeed Snoh Aalegra, indeed.
