Lost Kings, Stuck [Photo Credits: Disruptor / Columbia]American DJ/producer duo Lost Kings and Swedish singer/songwriter Tove Styrke make an awesome team on their love-centric single, “Stuck.”

“I get so possessed of when I see you happy / But I want you to be happy / I get so conflicted when I see you without me / Are you better off without me?” If you pinpointed love as the central topic of “Stuck,” you’d be totally correct (‘course the headline said as much). “Stuck” is the latest single by Los Angeles-based DJ/producer trio Lost Kings, comprised of Robert Abisi and Nick Shanholtz.  On their hot new joint, they go outside the confines of America, enlisting the pipes of Swedish singer/songwriter Tove Styrke.  The final product is #winning.

“Stuck” commences with a rather cliché start for an electro-pop joint.  That said, the record definitely proves just how worthwhile it is as it progresses. Tove Styrke delivers smooth, appealing vocals. She has a fantastic, commanding tone on the verse, singing in her full-voice. She contrasts with her breathier, falsetto on the pre-chorus. In the process, there’s a ‘bomb.’

“But maybe I need ya / ‘Cause it’s harder than I thought / Baby I need ya / But you always want too much / Oh, f**k it, I need ya / And I’m really trying tonight / But I miss it when it’s dark, aah.”

Speaking of a different kind of bomb, the chorus is definitely ‘da bomb,’ with a sick change of groove, and the lushness of repeated “Aah’s.”

“Aah, somewhere between love / Aah, got feelings I don’t trust / Aah, right in between love / Aah, stuck.”

The bridge stays groovy, following the second iteration of the chorus.  Here, Tove Styrke continues to mention just how ‘stuck’ her and her lover are. “Stuck inside this feeling, baby / Stuck inside this love / Stuck inside a moment, baby / Can we give it up?”

Final Thoughts

While it’s unfortunate that Tove Styrke is “Stuck,” her confusion and love pains are the listener’s pleasure musically.  Lost Kings do work behind the boards, particularly that groove on the chorus. Styrke sings in beastly fashion – well falsetto isn’t technically animalistic sounding, but whatever. Good vibes.
