Loote, Longer Than I Thought © IslandRising NYC-based pop duo Loote (Emma Lov and Jackson Foote)  enlist Joe Jonas for their fun, ‘exes-struggling-to-move-on’ themed single, “Longer Than I Thought.”

The first thing that should be noted is that the members of Loote are not dating – at least that’s what their Facebook music page asserts.  Loote is pop duo based in New York city comprised of Emma Lov and Jackson Foote, hence the two that are NOT dating.  Back with a new single, the duo gets a notable assist from Jo-Bro and DNCE frontman Joe Jonas on “Longer Than I Thought.”

“I think I saw you on the subway

Riding my way home from work

Probably got yourself a new boyfriend

Honestly, I can’t be sure.”

Joe Jonas kicks things off on the groovy, relatively quick pop cut.  The production (co-produced by Jackson Foote) exemplifies the modern, electro-infused pop script and provides Jonas with ‘fuel for the fire.’  Loote gives him plenty of song – the entire first verse, pre-chorus, chorus, and post-chorus.  He does get supporting vocals, but Joe is the star.

“You were a bruise that I forgot about

‘Til I licked on it again

And I keep running out of distractions

And I keep running out of friends.”

Emma Lov gets her moment in the spotlight, entering the picture on the second verse.  Naturally, she contrasts Jonas’ mid-register, lower pipes with her own cutting, ripe, upper register.  She joins forces collaboratively with Joe on the pre-chorus and chorus. The pairing yields solid vocal chemistry.  Once again, Jonas is solo for the most of the rest of the song, with Lov provides supporting vocals.

Final Thoughts

What’s the premise of the song? Exes are struggling to get over each other.  It’s cliché, yet it never gets old.  Loote and Joe Jonas make a great team on “Longer Than I Thought.” The is a solid pop record that’s well-produced, well-performed, and conveys the aforementioned, cliché message in entertaining fashion.
