Looseleaf, CONFETTI | Track Review

Happily “engayed” pop duo Looseleaf (Anthony Marone and Wesley Edwards) drop a fresh, must-hear gem “CONFETTI” celebrating pride , love, and community.

The Musical Hype receives its fair share of submissions and requests for reviews –understatement.  Too infrequently do such awesome, worthwhile submissions get covered on the site. But, every now and again, when the time allows, a pretty awesome musical act, that more people should be buzzing about, gets a feature/review, etc. In this case, it’s happily “engayged” couple Anthony Marone and Wesley Edwards (nine years strong), who perform as colorful electronic, indie-pop duo Looseleaf. In celebration of Pride month, Marone and Edwards drop a truly amazing, distinct single, “CONFETTI,” sure to brighten up your summer – better yet, your music rotation.

The premise of the aesthetically pleasing “CONFETTI” is quite simple; it celebrates pride, love, and community. From the jump, it’s clear that the celebration is on, in all its major key glory (F#/G-flat to be precise). As aforementioned, “CONFETTI” sounds incredibly bright, featuring shimmering production work that’s ‘charmingly quirky’ with its infectious, danceable groove, chopped, gimmicky vocals, and clever use of autotune.  Even with the liberal amount of vocal processing, the vocal performance itself is well-rounded – the tone is quite alluring and beautiful.  As you hear the singing, the ears sense that Marone and Edwards are beaming – it’s a definite selling point.

Final Thoughts 

If you’ve never heard Looseleaf, well, you’re totally missing out.  “CONFETTI” is a single that everyone needs to hear, regardless how you identify sexually.  Musically, this is a song that’s much more innovative than so much of the pop you hear currently on the radio.  The first time I heard it personally, it piqued my interest because of its unique overall sound.  Not only is this a necessary future addition to the Totally Awesome LGBTQ+ Songs Beaming with PRIDE, YOU NEED THIS IN YOUR MUSIC COLLECTION!
