Grammy-nominated rapper Logic remains prolific, releasing his first single of post-YSIV, banger “Keanu Reeves.”
Logic doesn’t seem to ever slow down. After releasing both Bobby Tarantino II and YSIV in 2018, he’s back with his first new single of 2019, “Keanu Reeves.” Of course, “Keanu Reeves” is named after the Matrix actor. Perhaps the best way to characterize the new single is as a banger in the style of singles from his mixtapes Bobby Tarantino and Bobby Tarantino II. All in all, “Keanu Reeves” is a winner, if imperfect.
“Keanu Reeves” features solid production work by 6ix and AG. Set in a minor key, the record is anchored by a respectable beat, with some colorful synths. As always, Logic drops a sick flow, with an aggressive, confident approach. For the most part, he doesn’t show off his hella fast flow, but maintains his rhythmic nature. The reference to Reeves appears on the stellar hook, which first occurs at the top of the record. Notably, this is the crowning achievement.
“I’m the one, bitch, I am the one, like Keanu Reeves Get it done, yeah, I get it done, no blood on the leaves They can't leave us hangin’, no, no, not no more, best believe Yeah, that shit is banging, Bobby killed it with no time to grieve I’m the one, bitch, I am the one, like Keanu Reeves Get it done, yeah, I get it done, no blood on the leaves They can’t leave us hangin’, no, no, not no more, best believe Yeah, that shit is banging, Bobby killed it with no time to grieve, ayy.”
As always, Logic keeps his rhymes colorful, referencing his clout, his race, and others’ perceptions of him. He has his lyrical moments, but don’t call it a lyrical ‘tour de force’ by any means.
Final Thoughts
All in all, “Keanu Reeves” gives Logic another banger. For the most part, he checks off the boxes of the things that make him a standout rapper. Are the lyrics transcendent? No. Are the biracial jokes/references growing a bit old? Yes, but there’s plenty to like here. Most fans should be pleased.
