Minneapolis alt-hip-hop/pop musician Lizzo comes roaring back with her second single of 2018, the testosterone-loving “Boys.”
Lizzo first captivated earlier in 2018 with her single “Fitness”. “Fitness” wasn’t explicitly about her workout regimen, but rather having a healthy mindset. This included body positivity and of course sex (“See this ass? Ain’t no rental”). On her second single of 2018, “Boys,” take a wild guess what the alternative hip-hop/pop musician from Minneapolis Minnesota likes? Hint – it’s not girls!
“Baby, I don’t need you / I just wanna freak you / I heard you a freak, too.” Hmm. “Boys” is exactly what you think it is – an ode to all the boys of the world. Lizzo likes them all – different shapes, sizes, colors, and sexualities, exemplified by the over-the-top second verse:
“I like big boys, itty bitty boys / Mississippi boys, inner city boys… / I don’t discriminate, come and get a taste / Form the playboys to the gay boys / Go and slay, boys, you my fave boys.”
Glad to know that anybody would be under her consideration. While her aggressive approach has a sexy vibe naturally, the all-encompassing, non-discriminatory nature is definitely thinking big picture. Beyond the content itself, Lizzo has a ferocious backdrop, specifically the groove, that fuels her fire. Even if the production had been wack as albeit, she clearly would’ve found a way to slay.
Final Thoughts
Does Lizzo slay? Of course, she does! “Boys” keeps it simple, but it’s infectious AF, no questions asked. Solid production, fierce attitude, and actually some redeeming substance makes this record a winner. Everyone should love boys after hearing this – or at least appreciate how each and every one is special…
