Idiosyncratic rapper Lil Yachty keeps it incredibly short on his freestyle, “Go Krazy, Go Stupid Freestyle.” Nothing game changing, it has its moments.
“Tryna keep it cool, but this bitch gon’ make me act up / N*gga, back up, go somewhere and get your racks up.” Lil Yachty is an interesting character in the rap game. He has his share of pros, but he’s also been plagued with his share of cons. Among those cons are rhymes that lack substance, being blatantly off-beat at times, and honestly, any and everything associated with his abysmal Teenage Emotions album. It seems as if the rapper hasn’t quite figured things out yet, but, he has some positives working for him on the incredibly short “Go Krazy, Go Stupid Freestyle.” Don’t call it a masterpiece or masterwork though…
Dark, minimalist production backs Lil Yachty – that’s a pro. Giving Yachty some credit, he does exhibit a unique flow. With the ‘moments’ being a great way of assessing the rapper, he has some memorable ones. First of all, before highlighting some of those moments, his agility should be commended. Compared to some of his lackadaisical career moments, give Yachty some credit here. Highlighting those moments, beyond the aforementioned ‘bullet,’ he manages to reference Gildan, Cam’ron, Peter Pan, and Gilligan:
“Up a couple million, still rock a Gildan
Might paint the whip all pink like Killa Cam
Inside the whip peanut butter like I’m Peter Pan
I need my own island, Gilligan.”
It doesn’t stop there! Later, he ‘balls’ with references to Kevin Durant and Kevin Garnett:
“I’m a sit this one out like KD
Might turn 30, go bald like KG
Prolly will not ‘cause I am not that crazy
Keep talkin’ shit, I’m a whipe that baby.”
Final Thoughts
All in all, “Go Krazy, Go Stupid Freestyle” is better than some of the material that Lil Yachty has released. That said, can you do much wrong over the course of a-minute-and-a-half, particularly on a freestyle? Yachty won’t change your life with his profundity by any means but the song is worth a spin.
