Lil Tjay, "Headshot" (Ft. Polo G & Fivio Foreign) [📷: Columbia]Rapper Lil Tjay enlists fellow rappers Polo G and Fivio Foreign for the brief but potent banger, “Headshot.”

So far, it’s been a good year for 🎙 Lil Tjay.  He released a well received, successful single alongside 🎙 6LACK, 🎵 “Calling My Phone”.  He’s back with another notable joint, 🎵 “Headshot”, which features fellow rappers 🎙 Polo G and 🎙 Fivio Foreign.  While “Headshot” isn’t a game changer, it is a brief, enjoyable banger.  There’s lots to like!

“Headshot” features dark, malicious production work courtesy of six different producers: 🎛 TnTXD, 🎛 Tahj Money, 🎛 D Mac, 🎛 Bordeaux, 🎛 Non Native, and 🎛 101Slide. While I personally question why so many producers were necessary, the string loop is a nice touch, as is the hard-nosed, banging beat.  The backdrop definitely provides fuel for fire of Lil TJay as well as featured rappers Polo G and Fivio Foreign. Polo G takes first blood, serving up tough, unapologetic rhymes.  Even so, the last few lines are melodic, but manage to maintain intensity established early on (“Middle of the trenches, that’s where me and the guys stood / Killers anonymous, black masks and black hoods / Walk down on him, make sure he get clapped good”).

Fivio Foreign takes the second verse – there’s no chorus to be found by the way. Like Polo G, his performance is characterized by toughness.  An additional wrinkle? Sex, of course: “She suckin’ my dick out the shower / Tell her, ‘Be quiet,’ she told me, ‘Fuck me even louder’.”  The lead artist, Lil Tjay, finally arrives, delivering the totally melodic third verse.  Given the pitched nature, as well as Tjay’s contrasting tone to Polo G and Fivio, there’s a ‘beauty’ about the sound.  Sure, Tjay is being tough like his contemporaries and very much fits the vibe of “Headshot,” but I really dig the contrast.

Final Thoughts 💭

Lil Tjay definitely hit with “Calling My Phone”.  Once again, he hits with “Headshot.”  This isn’t a game changer mind you but it is a brief, enjoyable banger.  All three rappers bring their respective heat on this hook-less joint.  The same could be said of the six producers (still can’t believe that).
