Up-and-coming rapper Lil Skies releases an enjoyable single, “Lust,” in advance of his highly-anticipated debut album, ‘Life of a Dark Rose.’

Lush, sleek production work backs up-and-coming rapper Lil Skies on “Nowadays.” “Nowadays” hails among the teaser tracks arriving in advance of his highly-anticipated debut album, Life of a Dark Rose.  Here, Lil Skies, assisted by Landon Cube, tackle the hook. The approach is a combination of pop-rap (Skies) and sung, urban contemporary vocals (Cube). The hook is the crowning achievement of “Nowadays.”

“Nowadays I’m too cool for a girlfriend / Nowadays I don’t know when the world spins / Live your life like we die when the world ends / So it’s alright every time we f*ckin’ break a sin…”

The verses by Lil Skies continue in a pop-rap vein.  All in all, he has an easy-going, respectable flow, with a nice pacing in regards to his rhymes.  Landon Cube sings the second verse, showcasing his distinct, upper-register pipes. Between verse and chorus, Skies drops a short, rhythmic bridge.

Final Thoughts 

Ultimately, Lil Skies keeps things pleasant and simple on “Nowadays.” As aforementioned, the hook is the biggest selling point of the song.  The flow is also notable.  The wheel certainly isn’t reinvented here, but this up-and-comer seems like he has something to offer.
