Up-and-coming rapper Lil Skies releases an enjoyable single, “Lust,” in advance of his highly-anticipated debut album, ‘Life of a Dark Rose.’

An exuberant backdrop supports Lil Skies on “Lust,” among the teaser tracks arriving in advance of his highly-anticipated debut album, Life of a Dark Rose.  The production work checks off the boxes. It’s minimal overall, features synths prominent, and is anchored by hard-hitting drum programming.  There’s nothing ‘brand new’ per se, but all in all, from a musical standpoint, things are soundly executed.

Brief, just crossing the two-and-a-half-minute mark, Lil Skies doesn’t waste time jumping into the verse.  His biggest selling point is his flow. His pacing, in regards to rhymes, is strong. Artistically, this is clearly part of his M.O. Lust itself isn’t a subject matter concerned with much depth from the get-go. The rapper plays off of such shallowness on the on the hook. “Shawty say she comin’ through, she on the way to f*ck / It’s a lot of lust, not a lot of love.”

Final Thoughts

So, what’s the verdict on “Lust?” Ultimately, Lil Skies delivers an enjoyable record.  This isn’t groundbreaking, or incredibly memorable, but successful all said and done.
