On his latest single “Esskeetit,” breakout teen rapper Lil Pump merely recycles clichés and all things empty and shallow.
Lil Pump is back with a new single, not that he left for very long. The teenage rapper is best known for his breakthrough, top-three Billboard Hot 100 hit, “Gucci Gang”. Despite being ultra-simple, it’s hard to deny that “Gucci Gang” is infectious to the nth degree – possibly even more! Clearly, his oddly titled new single, “Esskeetit” tries to replicate the successful script of his ‘ace-in-the-hole.’ Does it? NOPE.
Generally, Lil Pump, like most of the SoundCloud rappers, never seems to get out of his box. There’s not really any progression, just contentment living on the surface level. “Esskeetit” is the exemplification of superficial. He builds the hook off of clichés including ultra-lux clothes, Xanax, cars, and women.
“Only wear designer, esskeetit (ouu!)
Hoppin’ out the Wraith, esskeetit (esskeetit!)
Smashin’ on your b*tch, esskeetit (ouu!)
Runnin’ up a check with no limit (chyeah!)
Poppin’on X, poppin’ on X
Poppin’ on X, pills (yuh, X)
Got a new car, got a new b*tch (ouu), yeah
And I got a new deal (ouu!).”
Despite the clichés of the hook, the “new deal” lyric stands out, referencing Pump’s new contract with Warner Bros., signed in March 2018, worth $8 million (Cringe-worthy, right?). Moving onto the verses, expectedly, it’s more familiar fare for Pump. On the first verse, Lil Pump references Actavis (“And my grandma sippin’ on Actavis”), ice (“Got a lot of ice, and I’m cold as shit”), girls (“B*tch, you better buy your own flight… And show titties on Skype”), and weed (“I’m high as f*ck, took a trip to Mars”). The second verse isn’t much different, though he does incorporate his wrist – “Look at my two-tone Patek, I smash a ho then forget.”
Final Thoughts
As touched upon earlier, “Esskeetit” feels like a longer, “Gucci Gang” remake that’s not nearly as addictive or fun. At this point, Lil Pump is recycling as opposed to expanding his game.
