Lil Mosey, "Holy Water" [📷 : Interscope]Lil Mosey returns with the short, melodic single “Holy Water” which is relatively enjoyable but certainly not game changing.

Melodic rap is all the rage and doesn’t seem to be going nowhere anytime soon.  Perhaps that’s why 🎙 Lil Mosey has experienced success.  As a face of the new guard, he definitely values the importance of vibe and a particular aesthetic when it comes to his music.  🎵 “Holy Water” marks his first brand-new single of 2021.  For the most part, he picks up right where he left off in 2020.  “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” right? Well… right for the most part…

The usual boxes are checked off for Lil Mosey on “Holy Water.” He serves up the usual melodic rap performance, where sometimes, the diction is, um, so-so.  Of course, that’s part of the style, and Mosey nails it in that regard.  Additionally, lyrically, he remains true to self, not doing or saying anything particularly surprising or unexpected. “Run up on ’em like ‘Boom’ (Boom) / In a Wraith, I zoom (Skrrt off),” he spits on the first verse, continuing, “Need this panoramic view (Panoramic) / Shopping spree, we ran through (Shopping spree).” Of course, the centerpiece is the chorus, where I question what the contents of the holy water he partakes is (“Wake up feeling good, drinking holy water, hey”). Beyond lyrics, the production by 🎛 Royce David is quite appealing; sleek.  Overall, it’s warm in quality, with the rhythmic beat providing some punch.

Final Thoughts 💭

All in all, “Holy Water” is a relatively enjoyable record from Lil Mosey but nothing earth shattering or groundbreaking.  As previously stated, the young rapper is true to self, maintaining his melodic approach over a 🔥 backdrop.  Lyrically, he doesn’t move the needle nor was he asked or expected to.  “Holy Water” is respectable but ‘nothing to write home about.’
