s previously stated, 🎙 Lil Baby has had ample success in 2020.  He has a gaudy record you might say – there have been plenty of wins! Where many musicians experienced diminished success, the 🏆 Grammy-nominated rapper has dominated, totally “kicking ass and taking names” you might say.  He released two singles on Friday, December 4th: 🎵 “Errbody” and the much briefer song at hand, 🎵 “On Me.” The former definitely suggested a bright future for the Atlanta rapper.  What does the latter say?/otw_shortcode_dropcap]

“On Me” is a brief banger, produced by 🎙 Chi Chi and 🎙 EVRGRN.  Musically, the backdrop checks off the boxes of a trap joint.  The drum programming is the defining feature, definitely helping to propel Lil Baby.  Otherwise, it’s dark, set in a minor, with some minimalist keyboard work.  Not groundbreaking or earth shattering, but fuel for Baby’s fire.  As for him, the star of the show, his distinct flow with his southern sensibilities remains firmly intact – totally unshakable.  Honestly, in my opinion, it is his flow that really makes him such a high in demand rapper, something that’s not compromised here.

That said, does Lil Baby truly ‘bring the heat’ on “On Me.” Well, let’s just say this isn’t 🎵 “The Bigger Picture”, clearly his most accomplished and deepest work.  While he drops some respectable, introspective lines (“I can’t play with my creation, give the world to my lil’ boy /… I’m a human, I’m not perfect, I know sometimes I be wrong”), there’s also drip and of course, sex as well.

Final Thoughts 💭

So, how does “On Me” stack up? It’s enjoyable enough but certainly doesn’t move the needle for Lil Baby.  The production is respectable, and the flow remains great, but ultimately, not the best or deepest song you’ll hear 2020.  “Errbody” > “On Me.”
