Grammy-nominated rapper Lil Baby taps Grammy-winner Megan Thee Stallion for the remix of his drippy banger, “On Me.”
It goes without saying that 🏆 Grammy-nominated rapper 🎙 Lil Baby has been totally “kicking ass and taking names.” He had a gargantuan year in 2020 and there’s nothing to suggest his dominance won’t continue. After releasing the brief single, 🎵 “On Me” in December 2020, he returns with 🎵 “On Me (Remix)” featuring 🏆 Grammy winning female rap extraordinaire, 🎙 Megan Thee Stallion.
Produced by 🎙 Chi Chi and 🎙 EVRGRN, “On Me (Remix)” exemplifies the trap joint. The drum programming is the defining feature, propelling both Lil Baby and Megan Thee Stallion. Furthermore, it’s dark, set in a minor, with some minimalist keyboard work. Like the original, his distinct flow with his southern sensibilities remains firmly intact – the best part of his performance. Adding Megan Thee Stallion honestly ‘ups the ante’ on a respectable but not game changing banger. No, he doesn’t exactly serve up a heaping dose of transcendent, game changing rhymes herself, but the contrast she brings, as well as her relentless energy, is a win.
“I don’t know what chain I'm puttin’ on My Cuban link or my tennis (Ah) I know bitches gotta be losin’ money How they keep watchin’ me winnin’ (Watchin’ me winnin’).”
Final Thoughts 💭
In my opinion, “On Me (Remix)” is more alluring than the original. Why? Megan Thee Stallion. Lil Baby was fine on his own on the original, but he didn’t do anything extraordinary. Again, neither does Megan, but I like the resulting product of this collaboration. Worth adding this brief joint to the listening rotation.
