e Fil is a London singer and songwriter who is showing no signs of slowing down with his new release reaching even greater heights than his last ‘Undercover Lover‘.‘Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is‘ or ‘PYMWYMI‘ as we will call it here due to its long title is the pop anthem which we have all been craving since the start of summer. It has a contagious quality which even the naysayers of Pop will be relishing.
Kicking off the piece is a clap beat which reminds me of the type of sound we hear a lot in modern-day musicals. It jumps out instantly, and it gets the rhythm flowing through our veins. It also a Taylor Swift influence in the opening section but when Le Fil opens up, the route takes a new direction, and Le Fil takes us into his world of empowering pop.
‘I Was Standing At The Love Machine’ is the opening line from the London singer. Here, he gets his message across instantly. He is waiting for love, he is craving someone who does what they say, and it appears that the lover in question here may not be the one. Although it does provide a deep lyrical meaning, the music it boasts is feel good. Also, its upbeat tempo takes us into a party space with it sounding intrepid with its melody-driven piano lead.
The chorus is piercing; although it does remind me too much of other tracks which come from the LGBTQ community. Therefore, I would enjoy the artist to take more of a unique stance in his choruses, similar to how he did in the verse. Nevertheless, it is catchy. Also it is hard not to jump into his shoes with him singing with plenty of pathos.
Four out of five – George James.
