After releasing numerous singles in 2019, Ari Leff, better known as lauv, officially announced the release of his highly anticipated debut album, ~how I’m feeling~. ~how I’m feeling~ is slated to arrive on March 6, 2020, nearly two years after the love-centric pop musician dropped ‘the playlist,’ I met you when I was 18.. To date, advance singles include “Drugs & the Internet”, “fuck, I’m Lonely”, “Feelings”, “I’m so tired…”, “Sad Forever”, and the song at hand, “Sims.” “Sims” arrives as the fourth track off of the album.

Like most of the aforementioned singles, “Sims” ends up being another gem for Lauv. It’s a brief number mind you, but potent.  Leff co-wrote the colorful track, which literally references The Sims, alongside Brandon Lowry, Jonathan Simpson, Michael Matosic, and Michael Pollack.  Simpson co-produces with Leff.  Bringing The Sims in, naturally there’s an element of escapism, which begins on the first line of the first verse:

“I wish that you and I lived in The Sims
We could build a house and plant some flowers and have kids
But we’re both at some trashy Halloween party downtown
And I’ll probably never see you again…”

There’s even more escapism, as lauv references VHS tapes (extinct!), and on the second verse, asserts, “I wish that we met walkin’ round the MoMa.” But of course, they didn’t, LOL!  The chorus is pretty infectious, though you probably shouldn’t sing it around your pastor or the most devout:

“Ooh, goddamn
I wish we would’ve met on another night, baby
Maybe then I would’ve have let you leave me
Yeah, ooh, goddamn
I wish we would’ve met on another night, baby
In another life, baby
In another.”

The second verse is colorful beyond MoMa, as Lauv talks about trying to impress her “with some bullshit ‘bout Monet.” Oh Ari!

Final Thoughts

All in all, “Sims” is another winner for Lauv.  It’s well-produced, and ‘lover boy’ stays true to self.  Could he change up the formula? Of course, he could, but right now, he’s in his lane, and it’s working out sensationally.
