Lauv, Love U Like That | Track Review 🎵

Done judging himself, Lauv drops “Love U Like That,” an incredibly sexy pop joint tailor-made for making out/sex playlists everywhere.

Sexuality is complex – an understatement.  🎙 Lauv (Ari Staprans Leff), who came out in 2023, doesn’t seem to have a set label for his sexuality.  Labels are overrated, and everyone deserves to take their time figuring out who they are.  With that out of the way, Leff also managed to release a sexy single, 🎵 “Love U Like That”.  Who is he singing to? Well, notably, there are no pronouns, which keeps things interesting and allows his love and sex interest in this song to be wide open – pretty cool! It should be noted that “Love U Like That” should not be confused with an earlier Lauv song, 🎵 “Love Like That” which appears on his 2020 album, 💿 ~how I’m feeling~. The results are positive on “Love U Like That.”

“Love U Like That” features a gorgeous palette of sounds: radiant pads, synths, and a fabulous rhythmic groove.  It was produced by Lauv alongside 🎛 Federico Vindver, and Michael Pollack.  Furthermore, Leff, Vindver, and Pollack penned “Love U Like That” with 🎼 ✍ Annika Bennett. Leff gives us smooth, romantic, and sensual vocals. In addition to his tone, the vocal production is marvelous, fitting the aesthetic and vibe.  As far as form, “Love U Like That” is traditional and well organized with verse/pre-chorus/chorus occurring twice, followed by a bridge, concluding with the chorus. The pre-chorus is superb: “And you’re kissin’ on my neck / I’m like, ‘Oh’ / Got your hands up on my chest / I’m like, ‘Oh’…” Yup, ‘Oh’ is right, Lauv! And, of course, there’s the centerpiece – the incredibly catchy chorus:

“I love you like that

Everything you do just turns me on

I love you like that

Body on my mind like all night long

Six o’clock in the mornin’, babe

Want you more than yesterday

Used to judge myself, now I don’t care ‘cause, hey

I love you like that…”

Hmm, the self-judgement suggests Lauv is making a nod to his sexuality and allowing himself to be who he is which is awesome. Also awesome is his falsetto during the chorus – ooh-wee!  All told, Lauv has dropped a surefire bop with 🎵 “Love U Like That”.  Congratulations on a successful single and bigger than that, hopefully, he figures out exactly who is and continues to be true to self!
