23-year old Lauv continues to build his case as the next pop, R&B sensation on his Valentine’s Day, ‘rebounding’ single, “Getting Over You.”
Could Lauv be the next pop-R&B sensation? Perhaps. As of yet, 23-year old, California musician Ari Staprans Leff, has showcased ample potential. He continues to shine on single “Getting Over You,” which was fittingly released on Valentine’s Day 2018.
“Getting Over You” features sleek, smooth production work. The record sounds moody and sexy from the jump. The moodiness of the production plays a key role in conveying the emotions of Lauv – He simply can’t get past her. On the first verse, he sings, “Waking up in a cold sweat / Someone else in this cold bed / I’d do anything to no be alone… / I wonder if I’ll ever let go.” Even though he’s moved on physically, he’s still lamenting emotionally. On the second verse, he’s, “Drowning in my coffee / To wash the alcohol / Out my bloodstream / Sitting here I wonder / If we hadn’t been at all.”
A few more observations about “Getting Over You.” He delivers simply sublime falsetto on the pre-chorus section.
“I tried spending my nights under / Someone new / But the truth is / I could spend my whole life getting over you.”
The chorus is repetitive, but he clearly states his point – the titular lyric.
Final Thoughts
All in all, “Getting Over You” is another strong showing from Lauv. His best vocal attribute is his falsetto. He conveys his message clearly and successfully.
