Pop singer, songwriter, and producer Lauv releases a brief but pleasant and relatable pop single with “Combust.”
“I“I feel like I could just combust / ‘Cause these thoughts are getting way too much.” Please don’t combust, Lauv (Ari Leff)! Combust, verb, means to burn. So, via his brief but thoughtful pop single, “Combust”, Lauv feels like he could burn because of all of his thoughts, feelings, non-feelings, etc. The excerpted lyrics appear in the chorus, where, beforehand, Leff takes “another shot straight to the face,” hooks up with someone, yet feels “everything and nothing.” Sounds combustible to the nth degree! Lauv and Michael Matosic penned “Combust.” He produced alongside Federico Vindver. The musical backdrop is pleasant, with warm guitar, striking groove, and colorful keys. Lauv sings lovely, blessing the listeners with ripe and expressive vocals.
He conveys emotion, singing with ease and never over-sings. Combustible Lauv continues to rear his head. In the verse, he is self-deprecating, mentioning someone wanting his soul at the 99-cent store… In the pre-chorus, he sings, “And I wanna be everyone but no one all time.” Ultimately, “Combust” is another enjoyable, well-rounded song from Lauv. It’s not the second coming or the song of the year, but Leff gives a nice performance, and the message is relatable and thoughtful.
