Grammy-winning CCM/Christian pop artist Lauren Daigle inspires once more on single “Hold on to Me.”
Iwould argue that only a select few CCM (Contemporary Christian Music) artists exceed commercial expectations. Two-time 🏆 Grammy winner 🎙 Lauren Daigle has managed to do just that. According to RIAA, she’s earned two platinum-certified albums – quite an accomplishment. Daigle returns with a brand-new inspirational single, 🎵 “Hold On to Me”, aiming to continue her incredible success. There’s plenty to like about this three-minute number.
“Hold On to Me” was written by Daigle, 🎼✍ Paul Duncan, and 🎼✍ Paul Mabury. Maybury, additionally, serves as the song’s producer. He does a nice job of crafting a backdrop that is hip enough to appeal to a pop fanbase but also features gospel music cues. Notably, the sounds that catch the ears are there are the pads, organ, mammoth drums, and perhaps most of all, the lush, warm choral vocals. The cherry on top, of course, are Daigle’s authentic, commanding lead vocals. She never over- nor under- sings, delivering a balanced, well-rounded performance. Obviously, she has a great messaging, as she asks The Most High to cover, protect, and “Hold on” to her through thick and thin. Interestingly, she never explicitly mentions God but clearly, that’s who she references, particularly on the chorus:
“Hold on to me when it’s too dark to see You When I am sure I have reached the end Hold on to me when I forget I need You When I let go, hold me again.”
Final Thoughts 💭
Lauren Daigle inspires once again on “Hold On to Me.” No, the Christian pop wheel has not been reinvented in the least, but “Hold on to Me” is a solid, well-rounded record. Boxes are checked off: authentic songwriting, great production work, commanding vocals, and of course, the sheer inspiration in itself.
