Ask yourself that question. The pressure of perfection is enormous… ginormous! And that, friends, is a huge downside of social media, particularly the likes of Instagram. Grammy-winning Christian pop singer Lauren Daigle adds, “We all wanna be known, but we’re afraid to be fully seen.” True.  “Ego” is the 9th track from her self-titled, 2023 LP. Daigle composed “Ego” alongside Jason Ingram and renowned music producer, Mike Elizondo.

balancing a barbell on fingerIn this thought-provoking song, Daigle cries foul regarding the dangers of seeking attention and clout, validation from others, and E-G-O.  In the chorus, she proclaims, “I’m done wrestlin’ with my ego / Lord knows it all feels so hollow / If you wanna go high, then you gotta bow low / If you wanna go deep, gotta rise above the shallow.” Not only is Daigle a fantastic vocalist, but she’s also a prudent woman.  She makes her point loud and clear, over a groovy, colorful instrumental comprised of organ, strings, and horns.  “Can we change what we’ve become? / Can we save our society,” she asks on the bridge, continuing, “If there’s a way, if there’s a door / It’s humility.” Amen! “Ego” is a wise bop.
