Female rapper Latto brings attitude, grit, and toughness on her short but potent banger, “Soufside.”
“B
ig Latto, dope as gelato / Ho on my dick for a follow / Nasty lil bitch and I swallow / Drink that shit straight out the bottle.” WOO! Oh Sugar.Honey.Iced.Tea!!! Once upon a time, there were only a limited number of ‘spots’ for female rappers. Think back in the day, and you never saw multiple successful female MCs co-existing at the same time. Perhaps, just perhaps, times have changed. Regardless, 🎙 Latto (formerly Mulatto) still has her work cut out for her to become a superstar. Does she make inroads on banger 🎵 “Soufside”? Read on and find out, my friends!Latto keeps things short, to the tune of under two minutes. Ultimately, what she’s serving is sweet, at least, the vibe. “Soufside” features malicious sounding production (🎛 June the Genius, 🎛 Sage Skolfield, and 🎛 Sean Solymar) from the onset. I love the synths used here to paint a musical picture of griminess and toughness. Furthermore, a rhythmic, banging trap beat fuels her fire. With the music propelling her, the MC is fired up, easily exuding a badass persona. She’s unapologetic, confident and cocky (“Good head, ain’t been in no college”), which seems to be an unwritten rule for female rappers. Even if the script itself is predictable, she meets expectations. I heart the tough flow.
“Ho think she fuckin’ with Latto Bitch can’t see me in the mirror.”
Final Thoughts 💭
All in all, Latto is successful on “Soufside.” It’s only 1:50 long, so, there’s not much song, but the aesthetic and vibe show promise. Does she serve up game changing, transcendent rhymes? No, but again, did I mention that aesthetic and vibe? Ride the wave while you can, right? Right!
