“Idone done it all, feel like Shawty Lo / Laughin’ to the bank, but shit is not a joke.” Okurrr, 🎙 Latto – we see ya, girl! The 🏆 Grammy-nominated rapper returns with her second single of 2023, 🎵 “Put It On Da Floor”.  As always, there is no shortage of attitude and personality shown – she’s true to self.  Fueling her fire is a banging beat.  Overall, the production by 🎛 Go Grizzly, Squat Beatz, and Ben Hogarth is minimalist – nothing too fancy or particularly ornate – but sufficiently gives the rapper the lift she needs.

Obviously, the Shawty Lo reference in the chorus of “Put It On Da Floor” is quite intriguing. Furthermore, the chorus is intriguing thanks to being catchy, not to mention aggressive and confidence, particularly when Latto asserts, “Say she got a problem? Imaginary smoke / Bitches said it’s up then put it on the floor.” In the verses, Latto gives no Fs, asserting in the first, “Leave the club sloppy drunk, come home and get my rocks off / Heard ‘Bitch from Da Souf’, he tryna see me knock his socks off.” Woo!  She gets quite nasty at the end of second verse: “And I heard about your coochie, bitch / Pits like your pussy, we all know that cat is givin’ fish (Bitch) / When I send that eggplant 🍆 that nigga know what time it is / My ex crazy ‘bout me, better be ready to die in it.” Day-ummm!

Final Thoughts 💭

fire sunglassesOnce again, Latto has done the day-ummm thing.  🎵 “Put It On Da Floor” gives her yet another, hard-nosed rap banger.  Is this three-minute single the second coming? No, but it finds the rapper doing what she does best – serving up those aggressive, confident, and totally unapologetic rhymes.  All in all, it’s a worthwhile addition to the rap playlist in 2023.
