Latto & Ice Spice, Gyatt [📷: Interscope]Putting their rap beef aside, Latto and Ice Spice collaborate on the brief, thick, booty-touting single, “Gyatt.”

“Gyatt (Bow, bow, bow, bow).” If you somehow missed the gyatt slang train, Merriam-Webster provides a respectable definition: ‘A slang exclamation for admiring an attractive posterior.’ Grammy-nominated rappers Latto and Ice Spice join forces on the single, “Gyatt”, which highlights booty, as well as being a bad bitch. They had beef, but they’ve squashed it and come together for an unlikely collaboration. Five producers assembled this brief joint with its loops, left-hand piano, and an active, stuttering beat: RIOTUSA, Pooh Beatz, Go Grizzly, Cheeze Beatz, and SupaKaine. Notably, on her debut album, Y2K!, Ice Spice features a song called “GYAT” (only one T, though).

Latto brings plenty of attitude from the beginning, drawing first blood.  “Since elementary, bitches said I think I’m all that,” she asserts, adding shit to the mix… I shit you not: “I shit on hoes for sure, but I ain’t into the scat (Brr) / I turn around thick shit has entered the chat.” Ice Spice? Another line stands out from Latto, making you question, who is she throwing shade at? “This ho think I forgot, but, bitch, you still on the plate.”  Hmm, k… Both artists perform the gyatt-touting chorus, which is capped off by Latto asserting, “A bitch like me walk in, I’m turnin’ heads, they like, ‘Gyatt’ (Goddamn).” Ice Spice takes the reins in the second verse. Does she say anything substantial? Nah. Beyond talking about the gyatt, she informs us “I done brought the Bronx to the yacht like a Maybach truck, how this ass keep bouncing,” and “Big Spice, ain’t never worried ’bout how another ho move.”  Ultimately, “Gyatt” is so-so.  This doesn’t feel or sound like a game-changing, superstar collaboration, particularly given the criticism Ice Spice received for her underwhelming Y2K! album.  It’s okay, but it doesn’t move the needle in my humble opinion.
