Landon Barker, Friends With Your EX | Track Review 🎵

Landon Barker, the son of Travis Barker and Shanna Moakler, releases his debut, pop-punk single, the brief “Friends With Your EX.”

Like father, like son? Perhaps, perhaps. For some context, 🎙 Landon Barker is the son of musician 🎼 ✍ 🎛 Travis Barker and model, actress, and reality tv star,  🎭 Shanna Moakler. Landon could be described as that sometimes sus ‘I’ word – influencer. The Gen-Z influencer is dipping his toes into the music biz… again, like father, like son! Of course, Travis is best known for his drumming and production skills as opposed to his voice.  Landon, however, sings, releasing his brief, two-minute debut single, 🎵 “Friends With Your EX”.  It should come as no surprise that Travis Barker is involved, contributing as a writer and producer. In addition to Landon and Travis, “Friends With Your EX” is penned by 🎼 ✍ Jaden Pullaro, Dark Waves, and ​noahmadethiss. Travis, Dark Waves, and noahmadethiss produce.

“Friends” features pop-punk vibes, which suit Landon.  He offers up respectable singing, which is idiomatic of the pop-punk style.  The record gets off to an abrupt start with the intro previewing the chorus, which arrives later in full.  Speaking of the chorus, it is gargantuan – predictable! It’s filled with guitars and pummeling drumming, true to the pop-punk script. Notably, “Friends With Your Ex” is tuneful throughout, with the chorus earning top honors in the melodic department:

“I was friends with your ex

You were with him when we met

Guess he hasn’t found out yet

But I know he’s gonna kill me when he sees me with you

You’re a dream in my head

Now I’m sleeping in your bed

He’ll be wishing I was dead

But I know he’s gonna kill me when he sees me with you.”

All in all, 🎵 “Friends With Your EX” is enjoyable and pleasant.  It is a respectable introduction of Landon Barker to the world.  That said, at best, it’s okay – or nice – but nothing game changing.  Still, kind of cool that there’s a new generation of Barkers in the biz, right?
