If you haven’t already heard or heard of pop singer/songwriter Kyle Reynolds, get to know him. He shines on the thoughtful new single, “The Real Thing.”
Ah, fresh blood, rather fresh new pop music is upon us! It comes courtesy of rising Laguna Beach, California (based in Nashville, Tennessee) singer/songwriter Kyle Reynolds. Reynolds first came onto my music radar as a co-writer for the infectious, utterly superb EBEN (Eben Franckewitz) record, “Lambo”. At the time, I was unaware of just how much awesomeness Reynolds had to offer being the featured star. On his newly, independently released single, “The Real Thing,” he definitely proves that he’s ‘the real thing’ musically.
“The Real Thing” is an excellent example of sunny, major key pop. Fueled by that tried-and-true, modern-pop guitar accompaniment, Kyle Reynolds is on-point from the jump. Making “The Real Thing” even more ‘real’ as opposed to superficial is the messaging. Essentially, Reynolds is focused on real love as opposed to focusing on sex. There’s a chivalrous aspect that truly makes the listener gain even more respect for the singer/songwriter. Beyond the songwriting, Reynolds delivers a solid vocal performance, never over-singing in the least. Keeping it relatively cool on the verses, on the choruses, he’s more energized and even more enthused. The addition of synths on the chorus also marks a nice ‘timbral’ contrast from the guitar accompaniment fueling the verses.
Final Thoughts
All in all, on “The Real Thing,” Kyle Reynolds proves he’s a talented musician that should be on everybody’s radar. No, the wheel isn’t reinvented on “The Real Thing,” but talk about a pretty great ‘flex fest’ when it comes to quality. The vocals are strong throughout, including Reynolds dipping into falsetto on the bridge. The songwriting is also respectable, with a memorable chorus ‘putting a cap on it.’ Don’t know Kyle yet? Get to know him – he’s good.
