Polarizing Florida rapper Kodak Black drops a compelling cadence and flow on his brief but entertaining single, “Shampoo.”
Hair has been a topic in music many, many times. What about hair product tho, specifically shampoo? Well, rapper Kodak Black drops a minor-key single in 2024 named “Shampoo”. “Shampoo” keeps things brief, running just over two minutes in duration. The polarizing Black drops a random intro. At least, that’s the perception upon an initial listen. Honestly, it takes a couple of listens, or merely peeping the lyrics to see what he’s spitting. He says: “Got the bitch dizzy, yeah / Yak and cheese whip / Yakeroni drip / Yak sauce, condiment…” Um, sure… okay. Once the knocking trap beat kicks in (the first verse), as well as the edgier, dark, malicious vibes, “Shampoo” has more direction. It’s produced by DzyOnDaBeat and Dyrkyk.
Black delivers an emotional, intense rap, with a compelling cadence and flow. He says a lot of things, even if such things are not earth-shattering or game changing. The bars are entertaining if nothing else. For one, Kodak states, “I was ‘cross town zoolin’ with my dog, Pookaduke / Yeah, nigga, chain different color like fruit loop.” Woo! There’s also the incriminating “Yeah, nigga, MAC can’t suppress like evidence.” The second verse commences with a bang: “Drop my last album same day a bitch overdosed / Next day, they found Jay Martin lay in comatose.” All told, “Shampoo” is, well, something. It won’t change your life, but it is Kodak Black being true to self on this banger.
