Although still near the top of the list of polarizing rappers, Kodak Black delivers an enjoyable, respectable single with “If I’m Lyin, I’m Flyin.”
“I can’t let these n***as knock me off my pivot / God sat me down and talked to me, I listened / I was in that cell, he told me that I’m gifted / I don’t make it in the booth, then I’ma make it in the kitchen.” Hmm, that’s definitely an interesting perspective from Kodak Black, who is certainly nothing short of polarizing. Nonetheless, in my personal opinion, “If I’m Lyin, I’m Flyin” is one of the better songs I’ve heard from the rapper. Still, did I mention he’s polarizing?
“If I’m Lyin, I’m Flyin” is an incredibly brief record at 2:11. Fittingly, it only features one verse and no hook. Despite lacking a hook, the listener hears the titular line at the end of the record – “Just like I told you, if I’m lyin’ then I’m flyin’.” As always, Kodak Black serves up a distinctive sound. As referenced earlier, he sounds better rounded here, delivering a compelling flow on this particular joint. Much like the aforementioned lyrics, there’s plenty of ‘real talk’ from Black:
“All these drugs got the whole world jiggy
Hoes comin’ out they clothes and n***as trippin’
Why hit the top to go back to the bottom?
All these b*tches fallin’ for me like it’s autumn.”
There’s more, or course.
“Everybody told me I would make it when I was on the block
See, before this rap shit, I was jackin’ cars.”
At least he’s open and honest.
Final Thoughts
Again, “If I’m Lyin, I’m Flyin” represents a better moment for Kodak Black. The soulful backdrop with a hard beat accompanying Black is responsible for the vibes. This is an enjoyable, brief number, worthy of spins, even if Kodak Black doesn’t change the game.
