elcome to Sunday Refresh 🙏, a column that seeks to highlight inspirational songs to uplift the spirit. These tracks that appear on Sunday Refresh 🙏 may or may not be faith-based or religious; the goal is for them to make you feel better – refreshed. So, for the X edition of Sunday Refresh 🙏 (2022), we highlight 🎵 “Revolution” as performed by 🎙 Kirk Franklin.“The Book of Revelations
Chapter 7: Verses 16 and 17
… They shall hunger no more
Neither shall they thirst anymore
For God shall wipe away
Every tear from the eye
Get ready for the revolution.”
Woo! 🏆 Grammy winner 🎙 Kirk Franklin delivered a surefire 🎵 “Revolution” on his 1998 album, 💿 The Nu Nation Project. To this day, I consider The Nu Nation Project among Franklin’s best albums. At this time, Franklin was incredibly fresh – filled with innovative spirit that spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to the younger crowd. Even though “Revolution” isn’t that traditional gospel record that gets you all filled up, the energy is lit: “Whoa / Do you want a revolution / Whoop, whoop! / I said do you want a revolution? / Whoop, whoop!” The means is also the same as much of traditional gospel – to praise GOD! There’s rapping, singing, and the hope for a revolution without crime, dying, lying politicians, troubles – you get the picture. Notably, Franklin is assisted by 🎙 🎛 Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins (who also produces with Franklin) and a turned-up-for-Jesus 🎙 One Nation Crew (“With their hands up! Up, they got their hands up!”). Even in the 2020s, “Revolution” is a more progressive brand of contemporary gospel.
