Kendrick Lamar electrifies with his humble new single, “HUMBLE.” Likely, “HUMBLE.” Serves as a promo single from his forthcoming studio album.
A new Kendrick Lamar album is on its way. The question is, when? Only a matter of time, based on the new music the Compton MC has been issuing. The first suggestion K-Dot had another one on its way was mixtape style joint, “The Heart Part 4”, where shots were fired. In the same record, he referenced April 7 – could that be the album release date? Regardless, Kendrick is back with “HUMBLE.,” which plays true to its title.
From the jump, “HUMBLE.” is energetic, with Lamar testifying about his come-up.
“Ayy, I remember syrup sandwiches and crime allowances Finesse a n*gga with some counterfeits But now I’m countin’ this.”
Basically, the prodigious rapper came from nothing, and now, the cupboard is stacked. He’s not bragging, rather, he’s thankful. Later, in the first verse, he delivers fire referencing golf, high notes, and levels.
“My left stroke just went viral Right stroke put lil baby in a spiral Soprano C, we like to keep it on a high note It’s levels to it, you and I know, bitch, be humble.”
Kendrick, never change.
The hook isn’t as jam-packed as the verses, but it doesn’t need to be. It serves its purpose. The gimmicky hook makes this particular song catchy. Not that K-Dot needs airplay, but this hook would definitely sell “HUMBLE.” More fascinating is the second verse, particularly a clever cellulite reference.
“I’m so fuckin’ sick and tired of the Photoshop Show me somethin’ natural like afro on Richard Pryor Show me somethin’ natural like ass with some stretch marks Still will take you down right on your mama’s couch in Polo socks, ayy.”
Final Thoughts
As always, Kendrick Lamar is the preacher, giving all hip-hop enthusiasts more life. He is the one to beat, and “HUMBLE.” Confirms that this humble MC doesn’t really need to be humble given his talents. If K-Dot were cocky AF it be okay, because the dude raps circles around the competition. “HUMBLE.,” hence, is fire, expectedly.
