Kem, Love Always Wins [Photo Credit: Motown]Kem keeps it classic and classy on “Live Out Your Love” featuring Toni Braxton, the second single from his comeback LP, Love Always Wins.

Kem is among the most refined-sounding R&B musician’s in the game.  He’s known for his smooth delivery; finesse to the nth degree. While calling his music ‘dynamic’ would be an overstatement, the man is quite talented.  Amazingly, he’s been quiet since releasing Promise to Love… in 2014! These R&B artists definitely make their fans wait with these lengthy hiatuses.  Thankfully, our favorite grown-and-sexy singer arrives with his fifth studio album, Love Always Wins (August 30, 2020). “Live Out Your Love” featuring the one-and-only Toni Braxton, marks the second single from the LP.

In case you were worried, “Live Out Your Love” sounds like the Kem of old.  Are there any adjustments for the modern R&B sound of 2020? Nope – this is tried and true K-E-M.  For his fans and targeted demographic, this is perfect.  He’s had plenty of success in that old-school, grown-folks R&B lane, and he’s not exactly the type to make a ‘banger,’ so, this feels right.  The vibe is nostalgic and of course, romantic.  He sings beautifully, as if he hasn’t missed a beat since 2014. Similarly, Toni Braxton is the perfect duet partner.  The chemistry between two very similar artists – pros deep into their careers – is expectedly sound.  Yep, that’s about the size of “Live Out Your Love.”

Final Thoughts

Do I leave “Live Out Your Love” wowed in any way? No, but as a R&B enthusiast who feels refreshed when hearing a new song written and performed in the style of yesterday, I’m geeked.  While I wouldn’t say I’m geeked to the nth degree regarding this record, I’m glad to see Kem back and am excited to hear Love Always Wins. This is no game changer, but it’s sound, sound, sound!
