Kelly Rowland, Crazy | Track Review 🎵

Grammy-winning R&B artist Kelly Rowland may not reinvent the wheel on “Crazy,” but she does totally make our ears perk up.

“Batshit crazy / Knew that you were trouble, and nobody could save me.”🎙 Kelly Rowland doesn’t hold back on attitude on her crazy new single, 🎵 “Crazy.”  Though she’s not been nearly as relevant as she once was in recent years, the Grammy-winning R&B artist is on-point on this three-minute gem. She’s definitely onto something you might say!

“Crazy” opens with a bold, expressive soul sample.  Initially, it seems as if the listener is about to get this rousing, soulful ballad from Kelly Rowland.  Not the case! Producer Ricky Reed helps to flip this record into a dance-soul number of sorts. Of course, it’s Rowland who sells Reed’s musicianship behind the boards.  Again, she comes loaded with a fierce attitude that Rowland which includes some ‘salty’ language (“Hate you, love you, fuck you, pay me”).

Additionally, she delivers a fantastic vocal, one where she’s expressive and highly effective without over singing.  The centerpiece is the chorus, which is infectious to the nth degree:

“But if I’m gon’ be crazy
Crazy for anything
I’ll be crazy for you
If I’m gon’ be crazy.”

Final Thoughts 💭 

Kelly Rowland doesn’t reinvent the wheel on “Crazy,” but she does make our ears totally perk up.  While I thought her previous single, “Coffee”, was okay, I wasn’t blown away.  Perhaps I’m not blow away by “Crazy” either, but it definitely packs a bit more oomph.
