Kelly Clarkson, Down to you: Music Lifts ๐ŸŽถ ๐Ÿ‹ No. 37 (2023) [๐Ÿ“ท: Brent Faulkner / The Musical Hype; Kelly Clarkson/Atlantic; cottonbro studio, Itzel  Sandoval, Neeraj Nagdeve via Pexels]In the 37th edition of Music Lifts (2023), weโ€™re uplifted by Grammy-winning pop superstar Kelly Clarkson performing, โ€œDown to you.โ€

Welcome to Music Lifts ๐ŸŽถ ๐Ÿ‹, a column that seeks to highlight songs that encourage, inspire, and uplift the spirit; songs that exude fortitude, positivity, and resolve, even in the face of adversity.  Featured songs arenโ€™t genre-specific; songs may or may not be faith-based. The goal is for these songs to make you feel better โ€“ be LIFTED to new heights!  So, for the 37th edition of Music Lifts ๐ŸŽถ ๐Ÿ‹ (2023), we highlight ๐ŸŽต โ€œDown to youโ€ as performed by ๐ŸŽ™ Kelly Clarkson.

Kelly Clarkson, Chemistry [๐Ÿ“ท: Atlantic]โ€œA little birdie told me youโ€™re nobodyโ€™s friend / And the jokes on me / Well, baby, who are you to underestimate me?โ€ MIC ๐ŸŽค DROP ๐Ÿ’ง!!! Ladies (gents too), prepared to be empowered! ๐Ÿ† Grammy-winning pop superstar ๐ŸŽ™ Kelly Clarkson refuses to engage with anyone who is going to bring her down. And honestly, why should she? ๐ŸŽต โ€œDown to youโ€, the fifth track from her tenth album, ๐Ÿ’ฟ chemistry, is all about empowerment.  Ooh-wee โ€“ thatโ€™s that good, Music Lifts ๐ŸŽถ ๐Ÿ‹ we love, baby! Clarkson penned โ€œDown to youโ€ alongside ๐ŸŽผ โœ MoZella and producer, ๐ŸŽ› Jesse Shatkin.

โ€œI canโ€™t dance with the devil on my back,โ€ Clarkson asserts in the pre-chorus of โ€œDown to You.โ€ She adds, โ€œNeed somebody who can meet me where Iโ€™m at.โ€ Thatโ€™s the truth!  We can do bad all by ourselves without adding someone toxic or devilish to the mix.  Clarkson brings out the empowerment in the tuneful chorus.  Here, she proclaims, โ€œThese dark days are knockinโ€™ on my door / You ainโ€™t welcome โ€˜round here no more / On a different level than I was before / You canโ€™t bring me down to you.โ€ Clarkson, like we all have, made mistakes becoming entangled in mess with him (most likely ex-hubby Brandon Blackstock) before. She will no longer allow it, hence, why she curbed him! In the bridge, we understand why separation, a clean break, was the only viable solution:

โ€œIt must be cold in your veins

And now I know youโ€™ll never change

I donโ€™t wanna be your friend

Canโ€™t do that again.โ€

balancing a barbell on fingerLadies and gentlemen donโ€™t settle for less than youโ€™re worth! ๐ŸŽต โ€œDown to youโ€ speaks to cutting the cord when something is bringing you down. You donโ€™t need subtraction when it comes to love, you need addition! In this case, it was addition by subtraction!
