elcome to 5ive Songs, where we keep things short and sweet – no extra calories or needless fluff! There’s a theme/topic, five songs, and a short blurb. Yes, it’s a playlist, but it’s a miniature playlist that shouldn’t take much time to consume. On the 37th edition of 5ive Songs (2022), we select five songs that are associated with KEEP in some form or fashion. Okay, let’s get into it!1. Future, “Keep It Burnin” (Ft. Kanye West)
💿 I NEVER LIKED YOU • 🏷 Epic • 📅 2022
“Cross me so much, I got nails in my hand / City on fire.” Ooh, wee, Ye – 🎙 Kanye West that is! 🎙 Future taps his fellow 🏆 Grammy-winning rapper for the third song from his highly successful 2022 album (💿 I NEVER LIKED YOU), 🎵 “Keep It Burnin”. “Keep It Burnin” was produced by 🎛 ATL Jacob, who gives Pluto and Kanye a lit 🔥 backdrop to work with.
West gets some great parts in “Keep It Burnin,” beginning with the ‘Biblical’ chorus. Ye also delivers an interesting first verse, which features the eyebrow raising lyric, “When you run for ’24, I bet your spouse gon’ be with you.” That’s disturbing, shady, and honestly, West being true to self. It’s also not the only time he says it – it reappears in the third verse, slightly altered. Also in that same verse, he asserts, “Testin’ my faith and I fell in a trance.” Moving on, this is Future’s track after all, and he gives us, um, well, sex, money, violence, drug – typical stuff honestly. One thing’s for sure: “Money like sage in my house, keep it burnin’.” Woo!

2. ur pretty, “Keep Riding Me”
🎵 “Keep Riding Me” • 🏷 ur pretty • 📅 2021
Four words: “Just keep riding me.” How about six words: “Just keep on fucking me deep.” Now that is sexual AF, NO CAP! 🎙 ur pretty (🎙 Jake Hill) intended the lyrics to involve those private parts. Furthermore, 🎵 “Keep Riding Me” doesn’t go straight – it’s G-A-Y. “I can’t think straight when I look into your eyes,” Hill sings on the first verse, later adding, “Yeah, your mustache tickles my nut sack, baby.” Wow – TMI! It doesn’t stop there, folks, on this sub-two-and-a-half-minute joint! “You got a way with your words and a big fat cock.”
“Flip me over, beat my meat up while you pound it.” Holy shit! The lyrics are ‘something else’ to say the least – UNDERSTATEMENT. That said, in this case, they should be taken with a grain of salt. “Keep Riding Me” feels less an ode to male-on-male love than, say, pop-punk humor. Regardless, Hill serves up some compelling vocals. His best moment comes by way of the risqué chorus, which is sexed-up to the nth degree but also, entertaining:
“He spreads my cheeks, and he makes me scream
He’s my number one daddy, gotta make him cream inside of me
Just keep riding me
When I’m slurping him down, it’s my favorite sound
You let out a little moan, what a beautiful tone
So softly, just keep riding me.”

3. Harry Styles, “Keep Driving”
💿 Harry’s House • 🏷 Columbia • 📅 2022
💿 Harry’s House, is an inviting place to be – musically speaking, of course! 🏆 Grammy-winning pop musician 🎙 Harry Styles brings the heat on his third LP, arguably his best yet. With no shortage of gems, one of the better songs is 🎵 “Keep Driving.”
“A small concern with how the engine sounds
We held darkness in withheld clouds
I would ask, ‘Should we just keep driving?’”
“Keep Driving” keeps things short but sweet. Honestly, in some ways, “Keep Driving” is one of the deeper songs of Harry’s House. In the chorus, Styles asks a valid question: “Should we just keep driving?” Throughout, this question seems to be tied with love as well as various happenings in life both uncomplicated and tumultuous (“Maple syrup, coffee / Pancakes for two / Hashbrown, egg yolk / I will always love you”). Worth shouting out is the bridge section – “Cocaine, side boob.”
4. Rex Orange County, “Keep It Up”
💿 Who Cares? • 🏷 Rex Orange County / Sony Music Entertainment • 🗓 2022
🎙 Rex Orange Country (Alex O’Connor) returns much improved on 💿 Who Cares?, an album filled with reflection, introspection, matters of the heart, self-deprecation, and ultimately, arriving at a better place regarding mental health. One of the best songs on his third LP is the opener, 🎵 “Keep it Up.”
“Keep it up and go on / You’re only holding out for what you want.” “Keep it Up” commences Who Cares? distinctly with lush strings, giving off indie/vintage pop vibes. Following the gorgeous introduction, “Keep it Up” settles in with a sound groove, keys, and emphasis placed on O’Connor’s voice. He delivers a memorable chorus that is encouraging and uplifting. “You no longer owe the strangers,” he asserts, adding, “It’s enough, it’s enough.” Rex Orange County makes a valid point about fame and far broader, appeasing others.
5. Kanye West, “Keep My Spirit Alive” (Ft. Westside Gunn, & Conway the Machine)
💿 Donda • 🏷 Def Jam • 🗓 2021
“More than anything / You can take it all, but the Lord on my side,” Kanye West sings in the chorus of 🎵 “Keep My Spirit Alive,” a welcome moment from his 10th studio album, 💿 Donda. He continues, singing, “Spirit won’t die, die / Oh, oh, my life / Is in Hands, so I don’t stress, I pray and strategize.” “Keep My Spirit Alive” appears as the 16th track on the 27-track juggernaut. The 🏆 Grammy-winner is joined by two of his contemporaries: 🎙 Westside Gunn, and 🎙 Conway the Machine.
“Keep My Spirit Alive” is produced by West, with plenty additional cooks in the kitchen: 🎛 BoogzDaBeast, 🎛 Ojivolta, 🎛 FNZ, 🎛 Dem Jointz, 🎛 Rico Nichols, and 🎛 Darius Woodley – WOO! Westside Gunn (“Hundred-round drum didn’t jam when my shooter tried to spray it, thank God (Thank God)”) and Conway the Machine (“No weapon formed against me ‘cause I’m covered in the blood / Layin’ in the hospital when I got shot, fam”) don’t disappoint, dropping the first and second verses respectively. In addition to his melodic chorus, West appears in the third verse. During that verse, he alludes to 🎦 Black Panther and God’s mercy, omniscience, and wonder-working power (“Give it all to God and let Jesus reimburse you”). Amen!
