Katy Perry, Firework: Music Lifts ๐ŸŽถ ๐Ÿ‹ No. 36 (2023) [๐Ÿ“ท: Brent Faulkner / The Musical Hype; Capitol; cottonbro studio, Itzel Sandoval, Neeraj Nagdeve via Pexels]In the 36th edition of Music Lifts (2023), weโ€™re uplifted by pop superstar Katy Perry performing, โ€œFirework.โ€

Welcome to Music Lifts ๐ŸŽถ ๐Ÿ‹, a column that seeks to highlight songs that encourage, inspire, and uplift the spirit; songs that exude fortitude, positivity, and resolve, even in the face of adversity.ย  Featured songs arenโ€™t genre-specific; songs may or may not be faith-based. The goal is for these songs to make you feel better โ€“ be LIFTED to new heights!ย  So, for the 36th edition of Music Lifts ๐ŸŽถ ๐Ÿ‹ (2023), we highlight ๐ŸŽต โ€œFireworkโ€ as performed by ๐ŸŽ™ Katy Perry.

Katy Perry, Teenage Dream [๐Ÿ“ท: Capitol]Baby, do you know what you are? โ€œYouโ€™re a firework ๐ŸŽ†!โ€ WOO! Itโ€™s hard to believe that the ๐ŸŽ™ Katy Perry classic, ๐ŸŽต โ€œFireworkโ€, arrived way back in 2010! Perry experienced the biggest success of her career, as her ๐Ÿ’ฟ Teenage Dream album was chocked-full of hits. โ€œFireworkโ€ spent four weeks at no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, tallying 39 weeks total on the charts.ย  The song features marvelous production (๐ŸŽ› Sandy Vee and StarGate), tuneful melody, a strong vocal from Perry, and most of all, inspiring, memorable, and uplifting songwriting (Perry and ๐ŸŽผ โœ Ester Dean join the production team as writers).

The inspirational, uplifting nature of โ€œFireworkโ€ is what has always stood out to me personally.ย  In the first verse, Perry paints a picture of feeling worthless, and going through ample adversity. โ€œDo you ever feel already buried deep?โ€ she sings, adding, โ€œSix feet under screams, but no one seems to hear a thing.โ€ย  Following these negative feelings and vibes, Perry shifts all things inspiring.ย  In the pre-chorus, she tells the hopeless, โ€œYou just gotta ignite the light / And let it shine / Just own the night / Like the Fourth of July.โ€ Why? balancing a barbell on fingerโ€œโ€˜Cause baby, youโ€™re a firework / Come on show โ€˜em what youโ€™re worth / Make โ€˜em go, โ€˜Awe, aw, aweโ€™ / As you shoot across the sky-y-y!โ€ WOO! The second verse, following the epic chorus, embraces this newfound hope and fearlessness, contrasting the mopey first verse.ย  Katy encourages us to open a new door! Even though the chorus is the sugar honey iced tea on this bombastic encouraging pop joint, the bridge must be mentioned in all their brightness! โ€œBoom, boom, boom / Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon / Itโ€™s always been inside of you, you, youโ€ฆโ€ Just remember, whether itโ€™s The fourth of July or nah, YOU own every night, darlings!
