Grammy-nominate pop superstar Katy Perry proves she’s still got it on her electrifying Pokemon single, “Electric.”
After a while, as sad as it may be, popularity when you’re a pop star starts to wane. Honestly, fame is fleeting. Even when you’re recognized for immense accomplishments in the past, after a while, the music just doesn’t ‘hit’ the same way. That’s the case with 🏆 Grammy-nominated pop superstar 🎙 Katy Perry who has had an awesome career chocked full of multiplatinum albums and singles. That said, since 2017, Perry has truly seen her popularity slip, specifically with albums 💿 Witness and more recently, 💿 Smile (2020). Even so, she continues to make music, hence, an energetic, brand-new single, 🎵 “Electric”. Is “Electric” truly ‘electric’ enough to give Perry’s career a jolt of energy? Probably not, but it’s respectable by all means. The fun record appears on 💿 Pokemon 25: The Album. #Pikachu!
There’s lots to like about “Electric” being honest. The production (🎛 The Monsters & Strangerz, 🎛 Bruce Wiegner, and 🎛 German) is terrific – big, bright, sleek, and incredibly warm. The sound and over aesthetic is very 2021, which is a great look for a pop star whose heyday was clearly between the late aughts and mid 10s. Besides strong production, Katy Perry gives a solid vocal performance. She sounds clear throughout the course of the song, shows some pretty sweet range (particularly for a singer not known for this), and definitely matches the energy established by the ‘electric’ production. The final piece of the puzzle is the songwriting, which is successful by estimations, with uplifting verses (“Stay calm walkin’ through the fire / I know you’re gonna make it out”) particularly that epic chorus.
“I know you feel it, feel it If you believe it, then you can There's no reason that this life can't be Electric.”
Final Thoughts 💭
So, is Katy Perry washed up? Absolutely NOT! “Electric” is a fine single that checks off all boxes and shows that Perry still has plenty to offer. Will it give her a much-needed no. 1 hit? Unlikely but does Katy have anything else to prove as a 36-year-old with beaucoup accomplishments? Methinks not.
