On “DROWNING,” his first single of 2023, alt-pop Austin, Texas standout Jxckson reintroduces himself, serving up another high-flying, utterly sublime bop.
“I’m drowning / Waves crashing over me.” Don’t drown, Jxckson – you are far too talented to let those waves consume you! The Austin, Texas independent alt-pop artist has returned boldly and fiercely in 2023. Jxckson was already a walking vibe before 2023 hit – he killed it 2022 – but the single at hand,
“DROWNING”, marks his reintroduction. The reintroduction is giving sheer excellence through and through. Of “DROWNING,” Jxckson asserts, “It’s about the feeling of being both overwhelmed and numbed by the waves of emotions after a relationship and then trying to find a way to cope.”
“I never knew I would need you this much / Lost forever, yea I was void of your touch.” Uh-oh – those pesky matters of the heart are the real cause for the drowning. The end of a relationship can truly be overwhelming, something that is captured brilliantly throughout “DROWNING.” “I don’t feel anything / Why can’t I feel anything?” he asks, continuing, “All I have is me / My past is my only enemy.” The past can be a thorn in the side, indeed. As always, Jxckson captivates with his vocals. His playful approach showcases plenty of personality. That playfulness, personality, along with the authenticity captured within the songwriting and vocal performance itself, makes this dramatic, experimental pop track a triumph. Produced by
Boy Sim, Boy Sim outdoes himself with the sick beat and slick, dizzying synths, providing the perfect fuel for Jxckson’s fire.
Final Thoughts
Jxckson provides further insight regarding his utterly sublime single, “DROWNING”: “I wanted to capture the disoriented feeling of not knowing what’s going to happen next. I hope it resonates with people going through similar experiences.” I have no doubt that this slickly produced and superbly performed and written single will wow anyone who partakes of it. Jxckson continues to serve up the bops.
