Jordan Houston, better known as Academy Award-winning rapper Juicy J, taps Travis Scott for his ‘f-bomb laden banger,’ “Neighbor.”
“Got Cartier on me like Offset / Ain’t even gotta rap, n***a, I’m set!” Get it Juicy J! The Oscar-winning rapper is back with a new single, “Neighbor,” featuring Travis Scott. “Neighbor” is a relatively brief cut, clocking in under three minutes. The record features fluty synths, which is characteristic of the modern hip-hop sound. The beat is superb, anchoring the record down.
In regards to the performances, Travis Scott serves up his typical melodic, pop-oriented style. Notably, he raps on the chorus and the first verse. As always, the man has swagger. Scott serves up enough f-bombs to “float a boat” on the catchy, if explicit hook (he says ‘f**k’ multiple times).
“Jump to a check, aw, hit it in cash, hit it n’ dash
Flash, she a dancer
Stack it and fold em’
Forty-two acres f**k on my neighborTold her don’t say shit
F**k, f**k, f**k, f**k, f**k, f**k, f**k…
Dawg I’m stuck feel no drugs
That’s my love in a cup keep it shortGot the Dawgs in the cut.”
Listeners are treated to the signature “yeah ho” from Juicy J on the second chorus. His raps are naturally tougher and edgier than Travis Scott. He serves up a dash of the melodic, but ultimately remains ‘true to self.’ This includes keeping it sexual, such as “Stripper put it on her chest…” or “My bitch classy and she look just like Cassie but she nasty.”
Final Thoughts
Ultimately, “Neighbor” is an enjoyable record – certainly a worthwhile banger. Do Juicy J and Travis Scott change the game or the world? Nah.
