Juicy J misses the mark on new single “Ballin,” featuring Kanye West. Despite spitting game and flexing, J sounds tired and uninspired. 

It has been three years since Juicy J released an album.  Apparently, a new album is on the horizon, though details are scant (as of publication date).  Juicy J smartly collaborates with Kanye West on comeback single “Ballin’.” The problem is, he doesn’t get the most out of Mr. West, and the song itself is undercooked AF.

“Ballin” opens off-putting with an indecipherable sample laden with effects.  Frankly, this is the first indication that “Ballin’” is not up to snuff…wack, if you will.  The hook is a collaboration between West and Juicy, with West repeating the titular line while Juicy J ad libs.

The record does feature malicious sounding production work, once things settle in.  Ultimately,  this ends up being one of few redeeming qualities.  Juicy J sounds “flat,” but he does deliver fire on one particularly lyric:

“I’m the type that take your chick out for lunch / in the middle of the White House lawn / then switch up, start filming porn / Might tell the First Lady she can join…”

With just two verses, this particular joint feels too short.  West should’ve definitely dropped a verse, either in the middle or as the final verse.  After listening, the general sentiment is that more could’ve been done with this record.

Final Thoughts

Juicy J misses the mark on “Ballin.”  Sure, true to the title he spits game and flexes, but it sounds tired and uninspired.  Furthermore, Kanye West has a minimal, pointless role on one of the dumber hooks of the year.  Ultimately, there’s just not much here, hence why “Ballin’” will likely struggle to catch fire on the airwaves.
