Following the “Righteous,” “Tell Me U Luv Me” marks another posthumous single by Juice WRLD, featuring Trippie Redd.
Ah, another posthumous Juice WRLD release is on the horizon. “Righteous”, which arrived in late April, was quite successful, something that can’t always be said of posthumous music. For the newest offering, the later rapper collaborates with Trippie Redd on the three-minute joint, “Tell Me U Luv Me.” Released for his girlfriend’s birthday, the results aren’t bad, but the song isn’t nearly as triumphant as “Righteous” was.
“Tell Me U Luv Me” features production by Nick Mira and OK Tanner. The sound is respectable by all means but doesn’t necessarily have that ‘wow’ factor. Regardless, Juice WRLD and Trippie Redd both fit this backdrop. Trippie Redd delivers the chorus which is okay, but not game changing. Even though it’s repetitive, simple, I wouldn’t dub it infectious – it’s semi-catchy at best.
“Tell me you love me, tell me everything gon’ be oaky Tell me you love me, tell me you love me and you gon’ stay Tell me you love me, tell me you love me, won’t go nowhere Tell me you love me, tell me you love.”
Juice WRLD then arrives with a characteristic first verse, focused on his demons (drugs) and of course, love. “Bitch, I’m a druggie, so can you hide my drugs from me / And when I get lonely, can you be my company.” Sigh, it’s a bit disturbing, but “Righteous” also addressed the rapper’s drug issues which were very much part of him and his music. He also delivers the second verse and bridge that precedes Trippie Redd’s final chorus. Here, Juice references his emotions, including love, but also acknowledges the state of his world:
“Babe, welcome to my world, dark and confusin’ Get lost in it often, the same way I’m lost in you And it’s often my mind that I’m losin’ See, half of it stuck in a pill bottle, high and confused Don’t even know what the fuck I be doin’…”
Final Thoughts
All in all, “Tell Me U Luv Me” is a respectable posthumous single by Juice WRLD, but not a showstopper – “Righteous” was more accomplished. That said, the fact that “Tell Me U Luv Me” has a connection to his relationship is definitely cool and it is special this was released for his GF’s birthday. Is it a record that tickles my fancy enough to put it on repeat? No, but dedicated fans probably will.
