Rising Massachusetts rapper Joyner Lucas and ubiqutious urban contemporary musician Chris Brown join forces for single, “Stanger Things.”
29-year old rapper Joyner Lucas drops single “Stanger Things” alongside ubiquitous urban contemporary musician, Chris Brown. “Stranger Things” has many selling points. First, the production is rock, rather rap solid. The minor key synths and sleek trap beat aren’t brand new but provide a sound backdrop. Brown kicks things off, dropping straight rhymes – no singing. His flow is solid, but, he doesn’t have the most energetic delivery. This somewhat deadpan approach seems intentional. What is consistent about Brown’s rhymes is his love for sex, for better or for worse.
“You better step down to me
Feel the d*ck, b*tch, open up your mouth for me
Now choke, talk to the d*ck, honestly
I’m dope, b*tch, comin’ like Eenie Meenie Miney Mo (celebrate).”
Joyner Lucas outperforms Brown once he enters into the picture on the second verse. Notably, Lucas has some speed on him. As aforementioned, if Brown’s first verse lacks a bit of energy, Lucas has a more spirited approach. Brown returns for the majority of the third verse, delivering a confident flow that trumps the first verse in terms of intensity. Joyner adds some bars during this verse as well, before both join forces on the fourth verse. Notably, verse four has the most pitch of the entire record.
Final Thoughts
Ultimately, “Stranger Things” is a wild, but fun and entertaining record. Joyner Lucas has ample potential. The biggest drawback of “Stranger Things” might be the f*ckboy approach by Chris Brown. He continues to be stuck on the same thing at this point in his careerAs for the rising Lucas, his star continues to grow.
