Joshua Gelfand, The Only Place You Know | Track Review

here is always one song that perfectly captures the spirit of the new year, and this year it has to be Joshua Gelfand’s ‘The Only Place You Know.’

The new tune from the New York artist is a solo effort, with Gelfand’s creative world providing all of the sounds heard in the mix. He takes us on a voyage far off from modern life; he smashes it with his electronic indie sound and paves a unique path. The song begins with a snappy beat accompanied by a melting synth arrangement. It’s very gentle initially, and we’re wondering if it’ll pick up as the song progresses. The energy levels do rise at the refrain and midsections, even though it remains at the same pace for the entire piece.

‘The Only Place You Know’ might represent many different things to different people, and the beauty of the song is that Joshua leaves it up to us to decide what it means to us. It’s a one-of-a-kind experience, and one thing, in particular, gives us goosebumps. Also, the music has a habit of changing up as the track progresses, with new sounds developing. It’s a method that some of the greatest composers have used time and time again, and it appears that Joshua has shared the golden formula with us, leaving us never wanting to press the stop button.

The music also has an ear-pleasing last section. Furthermore, the arrangement gains new ground and advances to the finish line with solid character.
