Sometimes, two is better than one! That is the case when it comes to Dazzling Duets! On Dazzling Duets, we highlight striking songs performed by two artists collaborating. These duets can be from any musical style, making Dazzling Duets a flexible, versatile column. In the second edition of Dazzling Duets (2026), Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown collaborate on “No Air”. Let the dazzle begin!

“Tell me how I’m supposed to breathe with no air.”
It is a legitimate concern, Jordin Sparks.  The Grammy-nominated American Idol winner struck gold with “No Air”, a duet with Grammy-winning R&B artist Chris Brown. “No Air” is the third track from Sparks’s platinum-certified, self-titled, 2007 debut album. One of three top 10 hits by Sparks, “Air” marked the biggest hit of her career, reaching number three on the Billboard Hot 100.  For Brown, it marked one of 17 top 10 hits and counting. Both artists also earned a platinum-certified single. Beyond its success on the charts, “No Air” was nominated for a Grammy for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals (51st Annual Grammys), though it lost to Robert Plant and Allison Krauss’s “Rich Woman”.  Written by six songwriters (Harvey Mason Jr., James Fauntleroy, Steve Russell, Damon Thomas, Mike Scala, and Erik “Bluetooth” Griggs), The Underdogs produced this pleasant, pop and R&B duet.

Anyway, the sound palette represents the pop and R&B of the 2000s, anchored by a rhythmic beat and colorful keys.  The melodies are tuneful, while the lyrics are memorable. Of course, the big selling point is the vocal performances by Sparks and Brown.  Both sing individually like champs, while their vocal chemistry is exceptional when they join forces.  With the song’s two verses, they split each.  Jordin draws first blood in the first verse (“If I should die before I wake / It’s ‘cause you took my breath away / Losing you is like living in a world with no air, oh”), followed by Chris.  Chris draws first blood in the second verse (“I walked, I ran, I jumped, I flew / Right off the ground to float to you / There’s no gravity to hold me down for real”), followed by Jordin. Sparks holds down the pre-chorus (“… ‘Cause my world revolves around you / It’s so hard for me to breathe”), with a few contributions from Brown on the second go-round.  They join forces, powerfully, in the unforgettable chorus – the crème de la crème!

“Tell me how I’m supposed to breathe with no air

Can’t live, can’t breathe with no air

That’s how I feel whenever you ain’t there

There’s no air, no air

Got me out here in the water so deep

Tell me how you’re gon’ be we without me

If you ain’t here, I just can’t breathe

There’s no air, no air.”

Woo! Other selling points include the high-flying post-chorus (“No air, air”), the bridge, and the outro where there’s also – wait for it – “No air!”  All told, Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown bring the heat on “No Air”, one of the truly magical and memorable duets of the 2000s.
