Jordan Smith, Only Love [Photo Credit: Republic]The Voice Season 9 winner Jordan Smith makes a short, but sweet, energetic and spirited return with his uplifting single, “Feel Good.”

I can safely say that Jordan Smith is one of the best contestants to ever appear on The Voice.  Had the Kentuckian NOT won the ninth season of the vocal competition, it would’ve been a travesty.  While the resulting album, Something Beautiful, wasn’t the most distinct or bestselling effort of 2016, the man with anointed pipes still held his own. He comes back strong on the short, but sweet, energetic and spirited “Feel Good.” “Feels Good” appears on his sophomore album, Only Love (arrives August 10).

“Feel Good has a groovy, jazzy, soulful-pop sound. You’ve gotta love the horn hits and the funky, throwback vibes.  Ultimately, the style of the record is a perfect fit for Jordan Smith. His voice remains impressive.  He delivers a balanced performance – always in control, and instinctually pushes where it feels right, sigh.  There are some key moments that deserve acknowledgement.  The first is the awe-inspiring, gospel-tinged bridge, intact with gospel choir.  The second occurs post-bridge right before the final choruses – his epic, playful vocals runs.  Finally, there’s the combination of the bridge/chorus on the final chorus, which is busy, but works out perfectly.

Final Thoughts

All in all, Jordan Smith is ‘in it to win it’ on “Feel Good” and he’s not even participating in a vocal competition anymore! This man is God-send and hopefully his forthcoming project, Only Love, gets the attention that it deserves. If you’re not uplifted by this one, something is wrong!
