Pop collective Jonas Brothers returns with the short, somewhat off-putting record, “Wings,” which serves as the promo single from The Album.
“You are the one, the sun, the light of day (Yeah) / You are the wings I need to fly away.” That is a dedicated and sweet sentiment, 🎙 Jonas Brothers. In advance of their 2021 album, 💿 The Album, Nick, Joe, and Kevin Jonas unveil 🎵 “Wings”. “Wings” keeps things incredibly brief – under two minutes to be precise. The good news is that the bros make their point loud and clear about their respective spouses. This is the biggest selling point about “Wings.” Where the questions arise with this record is the execution.
“Wings,” despite its two minute length, features five producers: 🎛 Jon Bellion, Pete Nappi, Tenroc, The Monsters & Strangerz, and The Diner. There’s a nostalgic, vintage quality about the single, which contrasts their past music to some degree. Even so, it doesn’t sound so arranged or orchestrated to a degree it necessitated that many people. Furthermore, the songwriting credits include 10 people! It’s a bit mind blowing 🤯. The ode to love and a strong relationship should never be knocked or go unappreciated. Still, the writing doesn’t feel so poetic, nor the music so complicated, that it justified that many writers. Something just feels missing or off here… 🤔
Final Thoughts 💭
Maybe, just maybe, 🎵 “Wings” will grow on me. For right now, the promo single for 💿 The Album leaves me with more questions than answers. It has its moments – messaging, even the singing – but it just feels off-putting. Perhaps the further context of The Album will make “Wings” ‘hit’ more than it does as a standalone single.
